aka IPEC Referendum

Now that the newly formed IPEC has the responsibility of governing operations and transportation for all public schools in the IPS district -- traditional and charter, they must consider potential tax increases to cover the expiring 2018 IPS operating referendum.

Because of HB 1423, referendum funds would cover charter school needs as well.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ The real issue is the state continues to cut education funding forcing school districts to rely on taxpayers to approve the explicit use of funds.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½Their narrative: charter schools and traditional public institutions are in competition and traditional public schools are to blame for the financial deficits.

When reflecting on the history of how charter schools were established in Indiana, the privatization of publicly funded institutions holds some responsibility, but we cannot ignore the role of lobbyists and politicians who've helped facilitate a system where corporate leaders can line their pockets with our tax dollars.

The reality we find ourselves in is one where we understand the importance of public education for all public school children, no matter the school type they attend, and we put them first. We must consider this upcoming referendum with that perspective while also working to eliminate corporate greed in public education.

You decide.
